Weekend Walkway Continues to Draw Crowds
Release Date: 06 December 2011
The Weekend Walkway in to Cathedral Square remains popular with Cantabrians and tourists alike.
“I’m really pleased that the people of Canterbury have responded so positively to the opportunity to go back in to Cathedral Square,” said head of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, Roger Sutton.
“Nearly 20,000 more people made the most of the great Canterbury weather this weekend to reconnect with the heart of their city.
“For some, it’s a very brave step to go back in there for the first time since February. Overall however, people are telling us they are grateful for the opportunity and the feedback has been very positive”, said Mr Sutton.
The walkway will be open for the final time this weekend with the first group able to enter at 9am and the last intake at 7pm.
CERA’s advice remains that given the potential for danger, people should wear sturdy shoes, and carry ID on their body rather than in a bag.
Bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not permitted, and pets must also be left outside.
