The Notice

Pursuant to section 27(1)(a) of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011, the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery gives the following notice:

The Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan (2011) and the Waimakariri River Regional Plan (2004) are amended from the publication of this notice by:

(a) adding reference to the Styx River catchment into the Chapter 4 “Water Quality” table WQL4, table WQL8 and text associated with the tables of the Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan (NRRP);

(b) amending NRRP Maps A-CO2, A-CO5 and A-CO6 to include the Styx River catchment;

(c) amending Objective 6.1, Policy 6.1, Policy 6.3, Rule 6.1 and Rule 6.2 of the Waimakariri River Regional Plan so they do not apply to the Styx River Catchment;

(d) consequentially amending other provisions in the Waimakariri River Regional Plan to support the changes to the objectives, policies and rules; and

(e) amending Map 2 Waimakariri River Regional Plan to exclude the Styx River catchment.

Given the detailed material contained within these amendments, the full text and maps are not provided in this public notice.

The effect of this notice is to provide for the water quality rules of the Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan (NRRP) to apply to the Styx River catchment, rather than the Waimakariri River Regional Plan which currently applies. This allows all catchments within the north east of Christchurch City to be subject to the water quality provisions of the NRRP.

The changes to the text and the replacement maps can be viewed on Environment Canterbury’s website.
